Sara Hoose received her PhD in political science from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She studies American public policy and politics, focusing on political polarization, federalism, and environmental policy. Her dissertation explored the effects of political polarization on state policies, individual behavior, and political campaigns. She has also developed work that explores the policy drivers of high and rising midlife mortality, specifically the effects of federal funding on mortality outcomes at the neighborhood level.

As a postdoctoral scholar, Sara plans to expand the work in her dissertation to address why some environmental policies are popular across the political spectrum, such as access to green space. She will examine how the attributes of these policies might be used to encourage policy adoption in other, more polarized, areas.
