The Trienens Institute is home to centers and hubs focused on sustainability and energy. They are at the heart of our research mission, pursuing discovery science and cutting-edge research with the potential for global impact. The Institute provides core services for these centers and hubs including business and research administration, strategic planning, and integrated marketing and communications. The Institute's agile enterprise framework provides needed flexibility for the rapid integration of future centers and hubs of discovery.

CCSS

The Center for Catalysis and Surface Science (CCSS) is one of the leading catalysis research centers in the country and is primarily sponsored by the US Department of Energy.

Midwest Nuclear Direct Air Capture Hub (MINDAC)

The Midwest Nuclear Direct Air Capture Hub (MINDAC) is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Regional Direct Air Capture Hub (DAC). The Northwestern-led program unites a diverse group of research and commercial partner institutions to test the feasibility of using a zero-emission nuclear fleet to power air handling units that remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
