Graduates discuss the MSES practicum experience

Hear from 2026 MSES graduates and practicum clients about how the program equips students with practical experience and marketable skills.

This September, the Trienens Institute welcomed a new cohort of students in the Master of Science in Energy and Sustainability program (MSES). Over the next 10 months, students will learn from sustainability professionals and Northwestern faculty and develop the knowledge and skills needed for leadership roles at the intersection of technology, business, public policy, energy, and sustainability.

For many students, the capstone practicum project will be the highlight of their graduate school experience. Students will work in teams on consulting-style projects for clients, including businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies. In our latest video, clients and 2026 graduates shared their perspectives on practicum projects.
